Karen Strassler is a Professor of Anthropology at Queens College whose work looks at the role of images in shaping the political and social lives of people in Indonesia. Published by Duke University Press, her newest book, Demanding Images: Democracy, Mediation and the Image-Event in Indonesia, looks at the role of visual discourse in Indonesia since 1998, after the fall of Suharto and the new democratic era. My article about this book was published on Afterimage, and is available by subscription here, or as a PDF download here.
