Music and Gamelan

Picture
Portrait of Mario, the Balinese dancer credited with choreographing kebyar duduk, photographed by Colin McPhee

After studying contemporary music with composers Carlton Gamer and Stephen Scott, in 1992 I left to study traditional gamelan music in Bali, Indonesia.  Since then, I have studied and performed with a number of different gamelan ensembles around the United States and Indonesia, including Gamelan Tunas Mekar, the Cornell University Gamelan Ensemble, and Gamelan Kusama Laras.
