Fazal Sheikh and Terry Tempest Williams: The Moon is Behind Us

12/26/2021

Human rights photographer and MacArthur recipient Fazal Sheikh recently released a collaborative book with writer and environmental activist Terry Tempest Williams. Published by Steidl, The Moon is Behind Us collects a series of correspondence the two developed during the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic. A thoughtful and intimate correspondence, the book solicits important questions about justice, art, beauty, and politics. My complete review is available on the Photo Eye blog.

On Friday December 10, 2021, I participated in an online forum with the Indonesian Embassy in Washington DC. The purpose of the forum was to showcase work and research projects by Americans working in Indonesia. The forum included dozens of researchers and artists, and I presented information about my coming book on the history of photography in Indonesia.
